Waystream delivers network equipment to new Mittnät fiber city network in six municipalities

Waystream develops and sells broadband equipment and NetNordic, a Waystream partner, is supplying the network equipment to connect the city networks in the municipalities of Arvika, Forshaga, Hammarö, Karlstad, Munkfors and Åmål. MittNät is a new joint venture company offering open and neutral fiber-based city networks for the six municipalities.

With the assistance of NetNordic and Waystreams MS4000 products, MittNät is taking over the complete operation of the city networks. The goal is to simplify adminstration and distribution of services between the munipalities. At the same time, the rollout of fiber based broadband will speed up in these municipalities. In total, MittNät will potentially reach 160,000 residents.

”In order to secure the bandwidth, access and security after connecting our six municipalities to our central support system, we have asked our partner NetNordic to replace older network equipment with modern equipment from Waystream. We will now have the resources necessary to efficiently manage and distribute services between our municipalities”, says MittNät CEO Hafsteinn Jonsson.

The first shipments were made in September 2015 and the installation and startup is ongoing during the last quarter 2015. Waystream is continuously shipping equipment to the participating municipalities as and when new end users are connected.

”We are proud that MittNät chose Waystream for the future network. MittNät, NetNordic and Waystream have an impressive track record of city networks and together we will deliver the highest quality and the best end-user experience for the citizens of the six municipalities”, says Waystream CEO Johnny Hedlund.
