Waystream gets frame order worth 3 MSEK from NetNordic Solutions AS

Waystream, who develops and sells advanced digital infrastrucutre such as switches and routers for fiber-based broadband networks, has via the partner NetNordic Solutions AS, received a frame order worth 3 million SEK from Varanger Kraft, Tinn Energi, Alta Kraftlag and Austevoll Kraftlag.

The order includes the Waystream switch ASR6000 and optical tranceivers and will be shipped during Q1 and Q3 of 2017. The products will be used for expanding and upgrading the networks of the following customers:

Varanger Kraft, Tinn Energi, Alta Kraftlag and Austevoll Kraftlag are existing customers in Norway that have been using Waystream products since the first generation of switches were introduced.

- This is an interesting market with great potential because Norway, like Sweden, is generally perceived as being a leader in the rollout of fiber networks, says Johnny Hedlund, CEO Waystream. We also see great opportunities in the future in the fast growth in the rest of Europé. In the 31 European countries that FTTH Council Europé and IDATE researched last year, 20 are still considered to be relatively undeveloped. For us, this means that the potential for growth is huge.

The market is growing fast

The rollout of fiber has continued at a fast rate even during 2016 and the trend shows that Europe has now taken the step into the “Fiber Age”. In September 2016, it was estimated that there are approximately 44 million FTTH/B subscribers with more than 148 million FTTH/B residences in the 39 largest countries in the EU. For the last 9 months, the figures represent a growth rate of 23% and 17% respectively,[1]

IDATE and FTTH Council Europe also estimate that only 12 of the 31 European countries in the study have a penetration level that exceeds 20%, which is the minimum level used to identify a developed market. The remaining 19 countries, for example the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Germany, Austria and Croatia are still considered undeveloped markets. According to the European FTTH Forecast 2016.[2][3][4]
