Waystream upgrades its access portfolio

Waystream today announces an important upgrade of its portfolio of access switches for broadband networks. A new version of the gigabit switches in the ASR6000 and MS4000 series is being launched, where the main change is that the products have been revised to meet the requirements of the Swedish chemical tax legislation in Certain Electronics from 2017. Waystream is the first provider of broadband networking equipment that provides products that comply with the law's intention to reduce the incidence of harmful chemicals in electronics. The first deliveries to customers are expected in May.

"The Swedish tax legislation, which came into force last year, aims at reducing the exposure of a number of harmful chemicals in home electronics. As the law is written, it also includes operators' equipment for broadband networks, which means that city networks and operators can now use their investment capital to pay taxes instead of building networks. This reduces the rate of expansion which is bad for Sweden, "says Mats Öberg, CEO of Waystream.

"We have reduced the amount of bromine, chlorine and phosphorus in our products to meet the requirements of the law. This means that Waystream is the first provider of broadband network equipment that meets the requirements for maximum exclusion from tax and it benefits our customers. With the new generation of switches, they can return to investing in their expansion, "says Fredrik Nyman, Product Manager at Waystream.
